Bombay Toast or French Toast for Beginners / Bachelors
Hi All,
This post is one of my most Favorite food in the world. It was introduced to me from a very young age by my Grandmother. She called it Bombay Toast. I always thought it was her recipe, Later on I found out that this Bombay toast is one of the most intresting, most loved recipe Internationally called as french toast. Now I'm not sure if this was invented by the French neither do I know how the professional chefs makes them. My grandmother's version uses basic white Local bread.
This is one of the easiest recipes that Bachelors and Spinsters can make in their Rooms/ Dorms. But it can be easily messed up which I will discuss in the recipe. Be careful not to mess up( which can also be delicious).

Bombay Toast or French Toast for Beginners / Bachelors
Recipe type: Breakfast, Snacks

Cooking time :2 minutes / Slice

Please see notes on how to scale the ingredients
1. Bread - 10 slices.
Any variety that has good absorption( I use store bought white bread, you can use any variety like sourdough etc)

3. Milk- 1.5 cups( Ensure that the milk is not more than the egg content, if you add more milk the mixture becomes dialute and will not become custard so easily)

Method
Step 1: Preparation of the egg mixture.
Take a bowl and add the eggs. Add the sugar. Using a fork or a whisk( if available), beat the egg thoroughly till you see frothing( bubbles on top). The bubbles mean that air has gone into the mixture which makes the batter light.
Now add the milk and butter and mix everything using the same fork for a while.Normally I taste the batter to see if its sweet enough but if you don't like tasting raw eggs, its fine as the is no problem if the batter is more sweet. If its less, you can always add more ( always eat the first slice yourself to test the taste)
Step 2: Making the Toast
Heat a Non stick pan on Medium heat. Once the pan is hot, add a bit of butter on the pan. Take a slice of Bread and dip it into the batter. The bread should soak completely BUT it should not be dipped for more than 15 seconds. Immediately take it out and put it on the pan or tawa. Close the pan with a lid and turn the heat down to medium low. Too much heat will burn the toast before the eggs cook. Now wait till the egg mixute cook, you will understand this when the bread start to dry out . You are ready to turn the toast either at this point or if you feel its burned on the lower side.
Sprinkle a bit more of sugar on top before turning. This sugar can also be put directly on the pan. This sugar will melt which forms caramel and create a lovely taste( but this is optional, you can skip it if tedious)
Once you turn , do not keep it for long, No need to close the lid. keep it for a minute till the side browns a little and take it off the pan .
Serve Immediately either with caramel syrup or the best combo is with Tomato Ketchup( nothing weird about it)
